I had new turf laid in my garden this week. Fertiliser pellets were put in the soil before the turf was laid. The pellets. have now surfaced on the grass, which I assume is normal.
Would I be right in assuming these pellets would be toxic to my cat? I don't have the fertiliser packaging, unfortunately.
I have sent an online message to the turf supplier (who provided the fertiliser) but doubt I'll get a response tomorrow.
Does anyone have any idea when it will be safe to let my cat out again?
I realise this may be as much a gardening question as a cat question! I have googled but can't find an answer so any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Fertiliser pellets
Well, speaking as a gardener, that's a new one on me! I have never put down fertilizer - pellets or otherwise, before laying a lawn (the soil has usually been good enough to get the grass established) and I have NEVER heard of pelleted fertilizer working it's way to the surface?! Are you sure that is what it is?
I have recently scattered pelleted chicken poo on the veg beds and 'hungry' plants in my garden. My cats are attracted to the smell at first but they are fine with it and don't touch or eat it. They have more sense than to eat stuff like that. It would be quite a different matter if it was something like slug pellets which are HIGHLY toxic to the kitties AND us! What colour are the pellets?

They are definitely fertiliser pellets (or at least it was definitely fertiliser pellets that were put on the soil and I can't think what else could have popped up, the turf only having been laid on Wednesday.) They are white.

White? You couldn't post a photo could you? You've got me thinking.
I can't see how pellets could have worked there way through turf.

Getting dark now but I'll do it tomorrow. I only looked briefly and was then concentrating on gettng the cat in. She was very confused about why I would let her out in the garden and then chase her around to get her back in! Luckily I had fencing fitted by Felisafe a while ago, so she couldn't get out of the garden!bobbys girl wrote:White? You couldn't post a photo could you? This could explain it. It sounds like what I saw.

Re: Fertiliser pellets
That is often found in compost not fertilizer. Yes it may well be perlite in the turf compost. It is very light and may well have 'floated' out of the turf, especially if you have had heavy rain. It is harmless. Your cat is VERY unlikely to eat any.
