Smilla tinned cat food

Post by Kay »

As the question of value for money cereal free, high meat content, food crops up regularly, I thought I would ask if anyone else has tried this? It's exclusive to Zoolplus and Bitiba, and as it was on special offer from Bitiba I decided to get some for my two strays, as they're not keen on Butchers Classic, and in any case I don't like the way the jelly turned to water after a few hours

I got 48 x 400gm tins of their Tender variety for £36 - it contains no grain or sugars, and has a high proportion of named ingredients - it's a coarse pate in consistency, so good for thwarting lump leavers and jelly lickers, and to my surprise my two domesticated fussies really like it as well as the strays

Hey this looks good Kay - thanks for posting and I may be buying this from Zooplus (got one of those discount thingies you pay a few quid for) -

I think this works out about the same but I'm not good at maths lol.

Yes, I too am tired of the jelly hoovering antics and leaving solids behind - WHY, when they scarf down biscuits???

Cats!!!

Lump leaving and jelly licking seems to be a universal problem. And by the way, Kay, as a (former) Creative Writing tutor I admire the way you've captured this behaviour in just four pithy words!
The trouble is that it can make feeding your fussy feline rather expensive. I'm on disability and unemployment benefits and I sometimes despair as I chuck yet another lot of lumps in the bin (they don't look very attractive, I must admit). At the moment Rufus will only eat Felix As Good as it Looks Doubly Delicious, well, excellent, at least there's no waste, but it's just gone up from £3.50 to £4.85 for a box of 12 pouches. Ouch. I've just tried Felix Sensations Crunchies - wet food in pouches with a separate sachet of crunchy sprinkles. He liked it. Hallelujah, he liked it. For now. I've currently got three unwanted brands of cat food cluttering up my kitchen that Rufus did like a couple of weeks ago. The trouble is that if he isn't keen on something he'd rather starve than eat it. Holding out for something better. I'm no good at these wars of attrition - I cave in within hours. And he knows it, of course.
Oh but he's so sweet, so handsome, so laid-back. I imagine him tossing his almost-mane and saying in an American accent "I'm worth it". And he is. (Actually, he'd never say that. He has the tiniest, absolutely most pathetic little miaow. Irresistible!)

I've often thought that they might just as well sell packets of the jelly or gravy, and did wonder when the Gourmet Soup came out if they had decided to, apparently not from what I have heard.

Felix AGAIL certainly seems to be the popular choice at the moment and is one of the few that mine will eat. Due to changes in my personal circumstances I am watching the prices a bit more than previously. There is no point in buying anything cheaper, its false economy as i end up throwing it out. I have noticed Asda where I normally shop often has offers on the pet food section, something like the first week of the month, so now its a case of trying to notice when its on and stock up as much as I have room for. I have also noticed they sell larger boxes (48s ?) which are about half the price per pouch as the normal small boxes. The other one is checking on line. I used to send regular donations to my local charity and noticed that while Pet Supermarket was cheaper for some, Amazon was better for others, and Asda could actually be cheaper than both. If you have time it really is worth checking and keeping a close eye on prices.
