Antibiotic for URI?

Post by PearLucy »

My 8 week old kitten is receiving 2.5ml clindamycin twice daily for an upper respiratory infection. She has received 3 doses in total as she just started it yesterday. She is eating and playing fine, but she has developed diarrhea and I noticed a bloody pink tinge. Should I stop use immediately? Vet is not open for 2 days.

I have no experience of using this drug, but see from a quick google that 'severe diarrhea (may contain blood)' is a known side effect

does your vet have a telephone number you can contact for advice when the surgery is closed?

if not, I'd be tempted to risk putting her on a half dose of the clindamycin until you can get advice

Antibiotics are renowned for causing diarrhoea, I would give the vet a call and they will be able to advise.
