Kitten started peeing on things after a week and a half

Post by Kittykarenwalker »

Hi,
My kitten is 8 weeks old. Two days ago she peed in a cardboard box that had packing papers in it. I thought, ok, no big deal. It kinda feels like a litter box. Now yesterday I Leave for 15 mins and she pees on the couch while wrapped in her blanket. Maybe it’s because I moved the litter box. Redecorating. As a little girly she used to sleep in the extra bedroom before I could let her be so adventurous, last night I put her back in there because 1 cleaning products. 2 trust isn’t there at this moment. She cried all night and scratched the door. I was sleeping so not sure exactly how long. But when I went in the room to examine for a pee problem. There was pee on the mat in front of the litter box. Is this a pee problem? Is she being spiteful for when I leave? Should I not put her in the room and risk her peeing all over my couch? Has she been peeing on things all this time and I haven’t noticed?

Hi what type of litterbare you using. Crystals may hurt her Paws? Others with more kitten experience will post advice. Could it be anxiety driven? My Harper when she was a kitten went in my walkinrobe for a tad! Buy some special spray to remove any smell - not bleach products - I used Urine off but there's others. Perhaps a trip to the vet for checkup in case kitty has a an issue. One of Little Paws foster careers was having a peeing issue with a kitten last week. She was using a tray with her sister. Sister was adopted, no sharing tray used tray immediately & has also been adopted. Sorry can't be of any more help. Keep us posted. Vivian

at 8 weeks she is just a baby, and it seems you had her even younger- she certainly isn't being spiteful - just confused and probably feeling lonely having undoubtedly been taken from her mum too early

treat her as the baby she is, and certainly try ultra soft clumping litter, which is kind to baby paws - and perhaps a second box with shredded paper in case she prefers it

Please be careful with clumping litter at that age - if it is a clay based on, it could cause problems if she eats it

Hi, I was advised to used wheat based soft litter, so that’s what I’ve used. I changed the Mats under the litter box, so I put the old bath mat I was using back and I’ve been keeping a close eye on her. I don’t know what happened on the couch. Maybe she was just so tired she forgot to go to the box. But for the last 16 hours or so she has been peeing in the litter box. I’m keeping the floors clear from anything she may find soft and want to pee on. *crossing fingers* no more accidents.
