Potting on bed
Potting on bed
One of my two 4 year old cats has popped on my bed one day and then peed on it th next morning with me still asleep. Niether has done anything like this before. They are indoor/outdoor cats with outdoor access at all times.

Re: Potting on bed
Ewwww!
I know someone whose daughter awoke to a scrabbling sound and a spattering sensation on her face ... her cat had had diarrohea, on the bed, and was cleaning up anxiously afterwards and ... well ... yes ...
If that happened to me I'd DIE!
Seemingly the cat never did it again. Thankfully.
Personally I'd get rid of the duvet and cover if you can afford it, or at least wash them in the hottest wash advisable, in biological detergent which will hopefully destroy any lingering scent of the misdemeanour and discourage a return to it. I don't like banning cats from the bedroom but in this case could it be feasible to shut them downstairs for a day or two, just to break any cycle of this recurring. Also, I'd recommend a vet check, in case the cat's sickening for something.
Plus, has there been any change in their routine recently that could have caused anxiety/alarm, and do they have a tray - something outside may have made the cat feel insecure if they are used to 'going' outside and they may be confused about where to find a safe place to use.
You have my commiserations.
Hopefully others will be along with more advice, and good luck, oh and welcome to the forum too

Re: Potting on bed
Hi and welcome. Usually toileting in inappropriate places is due to either stress, illness or litter.

Best of luck sorting it soon.

Re: Potting on bed
Changes in toileting habits are usually a stress issue, and the link Janey posted may be helpful. Look at your cats' world through their eyes and see what has changed that would make them so upset, address the cause, and hopefully it won't happen again. Can be tough to fathom out sometimes, but persevere. They're not naughty, or developing dirty habits, they're just upset, and need your help.
