Cat mischief

Post by DaveK_ND »

I have a cat that has developed an annoying habit of scratching at things that I have on shelves. This includes CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and books. I have fairly extensive collections of all these items, so the idea of putting them all away somewhere else is extremely overwhelming. He likes to use his little kitty claws to slide things off the shelf and make them fall on the floor. If he can’t pull it off the shelf he’ll continue scratching at it. He has pretty much destroyed my Beatles Anthology VHS box set, which I picked up at a thrift store awhile back so I’m not out much on that particular item. But I have so many other things that are more valuable and harder to replace. I’m afraid he’s going to destroy everything I own. Does anybody have any ideas to break him of this habit?

Hi DaveK_ND,

I’m sorry to hear that your cat is scratching your possessions. You might wish to check out the Cat Health & Care and Behavioural advice sites on our Health & Behaviour Links section here: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/usefu ... -behaviour

You could also email Cat Chat’s own behavioural adviser for advice on this matter: behaviour (at) catchat.org

I hope that helps.
