Wont't Eat Keeps Throwing Up

Post by HWilde »

I adopted a stray cat and by eyeballing him maybe he's about 3 or 4 months old. The first week was great he was super playful, would eat anything we gave him (wet food preferred) but I observed during the first week that he often vomits and diarrhea. But one day he stop eating anything, he had no appetite, even for water. I try to give him everything (wet, dry, raw fish, chicken, etc.) still nothing he doesn't even sniff it. It has been three days since he last eaten and I've figured maybe this was something worst. I really want to take him to the vet but because of this stupid situation I don't have any money. Yesterday I've figured maybe it's time for him to go. So I open the door on the afternoon and he left, but this morning he came back and all wet 'cause of falling to the gutter.

If anyone could suggest me what to do that would be appreciated.

Or maybe he just want to sleep here with me.

If you take on a cat you can't just throw it out when it gets sick. Where in the world are you? Is there an animal welfare organisation or group you could take this kitten to? If it is a stray it should still be with its mother at that age and if it won't eat or drink it will die, so it does need to see a vet.

If you are in the UK try the PDSA; if elsewhere try rescues etc. This kitten sounds extremely unwell and needs help.

I have to agree, he needs to see a vet urgently, if he hasn't been eating or drinking for 3 days then he is likely to be getting very dehydrated. i know it's hard when money is scarce but when you decide to take an animal in you have to accept all the responsibilities that come with it. You are lucky he came back, letting him leave in that state, could well have meant he just went out to curl up under a bush and die.

Hopefully it might be that he just has a very bad case of internal parasites like worms which could be easily cured, but until he sees a vet you won't know. If you really can't afford it then please try any local charity to see if they can help.

I have taken my brave pills and scrape some money to take him to the vet. It turns to be some kind of kidney failure and the vet says that nothing I could do.

Well not long after the visit.... he's gone.

Man that **** sucks he was a pretty one.

And, I hope he forgives me that I couldn't take care of him.

I am so sorry - you do have the comfort of knowing you did your very best for him. Perhaps talk to a reputable rescue near you about getting a health tested kitten - there are so many needing homes, and you would have the reassurance that they are not already suffering from a serious disease or health condition.

Thank you for you condolences. And I will do that, but maybe after this situation blows over. So I have money when the situation calls for it.

I am so sorry, so young to have this issue too. Hope you have some comfort knowing that he knew love before he passed and that you cared for him and tried your best. Maybe you were right and he just wanted to sleep here with you, only it was the big sleep not just a cat nap.

It is so hard, no matter how much money we have there is always the vet bill that pushes us to the limit and beyond, I was there last year with my two and will still be paying off what we borrowed for another 18 months but no regrets. We lost one, the other is still with us.

I'm so sorry it ended up like that, i really hoped it would be something that could be treated easily. In the end you now know there was nothing that you could have done for him and aren't left with the thoughts of what might have been if he had died without seeing a vet.

I guess in the end he didn't want to die alone.
