Hi, so long story short my cat had to have stitches at the base of his tail due to a burst abscess. He needs to be kept indoors and wear an e-collar until it has healed.
He is absolutely miserable. Keeps crying to go outside and tries constantly trying to get his collar off. His appetite has gone down a bit and he just isn't himself.
Is there something I can use to protect his tail so he doesn't tear the stitches out and get it infected from the licking, so he doesn't have to wear the e-collar. Or is this the only way.
e-collar alternative?

Poor love, you're lucky he hasn't removed it himself as many of them do. Trouble is cats are real little Houdinis for slipping out of anything but maybe some kind of onesie? Does the wound need to be open to the air?
Re: e-collar alternative?
Yeah, the wound needs to have air. The vet didn't bandage it up.

Would one of the soft donut collars work?

Re: e-collar alternative?
I've been thinking ... a cat walking harness to keep it in place and something added round the middle so he can't reach his bum?

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look into these
