Buddy
Buddy is very much a domestic cat, but like so many of his kind he was abandoned by his people and left alone to cope (or not) with life on the streets. He hadn't been neutered so may have been one of those unfortunates who are acquired as a cute kitten and then, with a total lack of consideration for the humans he had grown used to, he grew bigger and was tossed out with the rubbish. He wasn't a particularly testosterone-stinky boy at all when he was brought into our care but that's irrelevant now anyway as he's had his Big Boy op and never did develop that tear-inducing level of testosterone that many older unneutered male cats use to mark their territory 'out there'. He's also been fully vaccinated and microchipped. When he first went into his foster home Buddy would sometimes give his foster mum, Liz, a smack but it was clear that this was a defensive move rather than an aggressive one. He expected violence to come his way, which is as incredibly sad as it is infuriating. Those defences are well down now, though, thanks to the kindness and patience of his foster mum and her brother. However, a sudden move can still scare him, sending him running for cover so we can only guess what he was subjected to before being abandoned. Nevertheless, Buddy is now a very happy boy who is learning to expect nothing but kindness from a human hand or protruding foot. Buddy's rediscovered his internal kitten and has greatr fun playing with his toys, especially the laser pen, and interacting with his foster family. As we don't know whether children were involved in his earlier life, we think it's better if Buddy finds an adult-only home only this time with kind, understanding and intelligent people who will continue the good work done by his fosterers and bring more joy into his life. He definitely wants a home where he'll be able to get outside to explore once he's really well settled and, as we're not sure how he would react to another cat in the home, it's probably best that he can enjoy being the only non-human in the home and get all the attention!
